How we are helping you with therapy during the coronavirus crisis.
It’s a really difficult and uncertain time right now with the Coronavirus crisis. We know how hard it is for you as our clients, and it’s also hard for us as therapists too.
I wanted to make a quick video to let you know what we’re thinking and doing to make sure that we can continue to provide you with uninterrupted and safe therapy sessions throughout this entire Coronavirus crisis.
Social isolation and uncertainty is hard for everybody. But when you’re struggling with a mental health difficulty, it is especially hard, and it can really put a highlighter over those feelings of anxiety and loneliness.
We know that when we’re feeling stressed out, and it’s very easy to feel stressed right now with all of this uncertainty, we tend to fall back into familiar patterns of coping.
So it might be that the things that you came to therapy for, the habits, behaviours, feelings and the thoughts, they might be feeling a bit worse right now. I just want you to know that this is entirely normal.
Your therapists know what’s normal. We want you to know it’s normal, so you can be especially soft with yourself, and just cut yourself some slack.
We know that connection is especially important in order to mitigate these feelings of anxiety, and uncertainty and feeling unsafe.
For many of you, your therapy session is your consistent point of contact every week, where you can feel a bit safer, have a chance to explore these feelings of anxiety and connect. Although we can’t see you in our therapy rooms right now (we wish we could), we are able to see you online. All of the Altum therapists and I would imagine most of your other therapists are now geared up to do this.
It’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty darn good. We use Zoom – it’s encrypted, secure and the way we hold the sessions is really nice. You kind of feel like you’re in a little therapy office. So we’re all set up.
We’ve arranged to see all of our clients as we normally would, at our normal times, or at times that work for them online. So we can provide that safety and that sense of contact and connection, all throughout this period.
If you’re not with an Altum therapist, please do talk with your therapists about online or telephone contact during this time. If you want some additional support, we are here. In fact, we’re online all of the time right now. So just click on the contact us page here and we can set up a consultation and chat with you about how we can support you during this period.
I think that’s it for now. Keep well, keep safe. We’re here to help. And hopefully, in a few week’s time, everything will start to settle down and we can go back as normal. I’ll check in again soon, bye.
